Mission 28
The Community Fair
It is fair day on the green. There are cakes, books, plants, face paint, a band and a three-legged race, and all of it needs a place, a time and somebody to run it. Set out the stalls, plan the day, share out the tables, and when rain is on the way, find out what still fits.

Rain on Fair Day
The job: Rain is forecast for fair day: work out what fits under the school's covered yard, what moves to another time and what waits for next year, and justify it.
- Thursday's Forecast With a PlayOwl plan
- Share the Roof by the Clock With a PlayOwl plan
- Area Says Yes. Does Shape? With a PlayOwl plan
- Friday: A Smaller Yard With a PlayOwl plan
- Sunday or Next Year? With a PlayOwl plan
For grown-ups: what this mission practices
Sorting and matching to a picture plan, counting to a list, position on a squared plan, clock times and minutes in an hour, and sharing a limited supply. Older children plan with several limits at once (space, time, helpers and a budget), compare alternatives, and justify what changes when the plan has to change.
- Ages
- Five versions, from Preschool to Grade 8. They are different designs, not the same task with other numbers.
- How it is checked
- Every answer is checked by rules the child can see at work on the screen. Any answer that meets them is right.
- Help
- Olly can read any line aloud, give a hint that points at where to look, or show one way. A report says where help was used.
- Time
- Nothing is timed. A part takes a few minutes and progress is saved after each one for a signed-in child.
