Rational Numbers and Coordinate Planes
Learners use positive and negative numbers for temperatures, elevations and money, place and order rational numbers on a number line, and interpret absolute value as distance from zero. They then extend the coordinate plane to four quadrants, reflect points across the axes and find distances between points that share a coordinate.

- Ways to answer: choose an answer, plot points, match pairs, type a number, place on a number line and put in order
What learners will discover
- Use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real situations and explain what 0 means in each situation.
- Place, compare and order rational numbers on a number line, including opposites, and interpret order statements in context.
- Interpret absolute value as distance from 0 and use it to describe size, debt or depth in context.
- Plot points in all four quadrants, reflect points across the axes and find distances between points with the same x- or y-coordinate.
