Adaptation
Retold for PlayOwl in 2026 from the fairy tale of the shoemaker and the elves. The events are the well-known ones, kept short and gentle. In this telling the elves wear thin shirts full of holes, and the tale ends with the shoemaker and his wife thinking kindly of them. The Grimms' collection was first published in 1812. Wilhelm Grimm died in 1859 and Jacob Grimm in 1863, so the tale is in the public domain. The retelling follows the events of the story and was not worked from any English translation. No wording was copied.
