1st Grade Reading Games
In the early grades, reading is about cracking the code. Children connect letters to sounds, blend sounds into words, read common sight words such as the, said and was by heart, and move from decodable sentences to short books. Alongside phonics, they answer questions about stories, learn new words from context, and write sentences with capitals and end marks. In first grade, children read words with blends and digraphs such as sh, ch and th, learn long vowels with silent e, read more sight words and write short stories. These first grade reading games give short, focused practice, with directions read aloud where needed, stars for progress, and free levels to start without an account.
