Coding · Grade 2
Decisions and Conditions
Second graders learn that a condition is a true-or-false question, trace if-then-else programs where only one part runs, use conditions to build sorting machines (including a two-question sort), and write their own if-then-else rules.
- 4 lessons
- About 70 minutes
- Decisions check: 7 questions
- Ways to answer: fill in the blanks, choose an answer, put code in order, trace code, type a number and sort into groups
What learners will discover
- Tell whether a condition is true or false in a given situation.
- Trace an if-then-else program: the then part runs when the condition is true, otherwise the else part.
- Use conditions to sort things into groups, including with two questions in a row.
- Write an if-then-else rule for an everyday or game situation.
