Equations and Inequalities
Learners treat an equation as a balance, test values by substitution, and solve one-step equations of the forms x + p = q and px = q with whole numbers, fractions and decimals. They write equations for real situations and finish with inequalities such as x > c, which have infinitely many solutions shown on a number line.

- Ways to answer: fill in the blanks, choose an answer, type a fraction, match pairs, type a number and place on a number line
What learners will discover
- Decide whether a given number makes an equation or inequality true by substituting, and choose solutions from a given set.
- Solve equations of the forms x + p = q and px = q with whole numbers, fractions and decimals using inverse operations, and check the solution.
- Write equations with a variable to represent real-world problems, explain what the variable stands for, and answer the question in context.
- Write inequalities of the form x > c, x < c, x ≥ c or x ≤ c for real-world conditions, recognize that they have infinitely many solutions, and show them on number lines.
