Mathematics · Grade 6
Dependent and Independent Variables
Learners study two quantities that change together: they decide which variable depends on which, write equations such as d = 65t from tables, and graph the relationships in the first quadrant. The course ends by using tables, graphs and equations together to answer questions and compare two plans.
- 4 lessons
- About 88 minutes
- Variables, tables and graphs check: 10 questions
- Ways to answer: fill in the blanks, choose an answer, type a fraction, draw a graph, plot points and match pairs
What learners will discover
- Identify the independent and dependent variables in a situation and explain which quantity depends on which.
- Write an equation that gives the dependent variable in terms of the independent variable, and connect it to a table of values.
- Graph a relationship in the first quadrant with the independent variable on the horizontal axis, and read points on a graph in context.
- Use tables, graphs and equations together to answer questions and to compare two relationships in context.
