How Batteries Store Energy
People often say that a battery "stores electricity," as if it were a tiny tank of electric current waiting to be poured out. That is not quite right. A battery stores energy in chemical form, in substances arranged so that they would release energy if only they could react. The battery's design keeps them from reacting until you complete a circuit, and then the reaction turns stored chemical energy into an electric current.
