Is Space Exploration Worth the Cost?
Every few years, a striking photograph from a distant planet appears on the news, and someone at the dinner table asks the inevitable question: with so many problems here on Earth, why are we spending money to explore space? It is a fair question, and it deserves a better answer than wonder alone. I believe space exploration is worth its cost, because it returns far more than it takes, in knowledge, in technology and in protection for life on our own planet.
