The Committee for a Better Lunch
The Student Committee for a Better Lunch was founded on the second Tuesday of September, shortly after the fish squares, and it was agreed at the very first meeting that the cafeteria menu would not be improved hastily. Hasty improvement, the committee's chair, Philippa Crane, explained, was precisely how the fish squares had happened in the first place. The committee therefore resolved to begin not with food but with a mission statement, which was drafted in October, revised in November, and adopted in December after a spirited debate over whether "Better" deserved a capital letter.
