Grade 6 · Folk tale
The Old Man and His Grandson
In a small house at the edge of a village lived a farmer, his wife, their four-year-old son and the farmer's father, who had grown very old. The grandfather's eyes had clouded over, his ears could barely catch a voice across the room, and his knees shook whenever he rose from his chair. At supper, his hands trembled so much that soup slid off his spoon, dribbled down his chin and spotted the clean white tablecloth.
