The Interview
Declan Brandt had three days to write a profile of a neighbor for the Hillcrest Middle School paper, and he had already been turned down twice. The mail carrier was too busy, and the man who ran the bakery on the corner was away on vacation. That left Mrs. Varga next door, who scowled at kids who cut across her lawn and had once kept Declan's soccer ball for a week after it flattened her tomato plants. On Tuesday afternoon, he knocked on her door with a sharpened pencil and ten questions he was sure would fill a whole page.
