How to Draw a Chick
- Easy (level 2 of 5)
- 8 min
- 7 steps
- Ages 4–8 (a guide, not a rule)
Draw on paper: Paper, Pencil. Optional: Eraser, Yellow and orange crayons or markers.
Draw it on the screen
A baby chick is two circles: a small one for the head and a big round one for the body. This chick is drawn from the side, looking left. The body tucks behind the head, so you start and stop the body line where it touches the head. Then add a wing, a beak, a fluffy top and two thin legs.
Rather color it? Print the chick coloring page.
Step by step

Tips for this drawing
Helpful hints
- Make the body about twice as wide as the head.
- Leave space under the body for the legs.
- Draw the beak open, like two small triangles, for a chick that is peeping.
Common mistakes
- The body line runs right through the head. Start the body where it touches the bottom of the head and stop it where it comes back to the head.
- The legs are thick like a dog's legs. Chick legs are thin: one single line for each leg, then three tiny toes.
Make it simpler
Draw a head circle, a big body circle under it, a dot eye, a triangle beak and two stick legs.
Overlap
The head is in front of the body. The body line starts and stops where it meets the head, so you only draw the part of the body you can see.
