For grown-ups: what this book practices, and where it comes from

What this book practices

The Norwegian folk tale in new, simple words, with "Trip, trap!" to read aloud and many long o words: goat, over, below, low. The troll here is grumpy, not a monster. He ends up wet and sulking under his bridge, unhurt.

Credit and rights

Adaptation
Retold for PlayOwl in 2026 from the Norwegian folk tale of the three billy goats. PlayOwl's telling is gentler than the old versions: the troll only threatens to toss the goats in the stream, nobody is eaten, and the troll ends up wet and sulking under his bridge, unhurt. The tale is folklore with no author. Asbjørnsen died in 1885 and Moe in 1882, so their printed collection is in the public domain. The retelling follows the events of the story and was not worked from any English translation. No edition's wording was copied apart from the two short traditional words "Trip, trap".
