Grade 12 · Story
The Commencement Speech
At eleven o'clock on the night before graduation, Iris Calloway had a speech that ran exactly four minutes and fifty seconds, and she had timed it twice in front of the bathroom mirror to be sure. It told her classmates that the future belonged to them, that they would go out and change the world, and that the only limits on their lives were the ones they set for themselves. It quoted a famous inventor, celebrated the robotics team's state title, and ended on the word "tomorrow," which her English teacher had praised as a strong finish.
