Houston, We've Had a Problem
On April 13, 1970, three American astronauts were about 200,000 miles from Earth, on their way to the Moon, when they heard a loud bang. The spacecraft shook, and warning lights flashed. Astronaut Jack Swigert radioed Mission Control in Houston, Texas: "Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here." An oxygen tank had exploded in the service module, the part of the ship that supplied its power, water and air.
