9th Grade Reading Worksheets

High school English centers on literature, rhetoric and research. Students analyze how authors build meaning across novels, plays, poetry and speeches, trace arguments and their reasoning, and write analytical essays and research papers that cite sources. Vocabulary study covers academic and literary terms, and close reading prepares students for the SAT, ACT and AP English exams. Ninth grade often brings the first formal literary analysis essays: theme, character development, and how structure creates tension or surprise. These ninth grade reading worksheets are free printable PDFs for review and test practice, many with answer keys for grown-ups.
