The tricky ones
The doubles past 10 are the ones that slip: 2 × 7 = 14, 2 × 8 = 16 and 2 × 9 = 18. Picture two rows of the same number.
Doubles
The 2s are doubles, which most children already know from adding. That makes this the best first table: every fact is a double they can check with fingers or pairs.

Turn every fact into a double you know: 2 × 6 is 6 + 6 = 12. For 2 × 12, double 10 and double 2, then add: 20 + 4 = 24.
3 × 2 = 6
Every multiplication fact has a division fact in its family: if 2 × 4 = 8, then 8 ÷ 2 = 4.
